i’ve been attempting to understand for a while why i hate so much that a video of the january 6th insurrection was used in star trek, and aside from how much it confuses the timeline (eugenics wars in the 90s, nuclear winter in the early 21st century, but somehow all sorted out by 2016 and trump was elected president?), i think i’ve found part of my problem with it.

it just seems like an easy cop out to get ‘progressive points’, a quick way for the writers to show you where they stand, without even an attempt to fit it into the timeline in a way that makes sense.

my main issue is that star trek has, of course, always dealt with complicated issues, but it used to be so much more thought out. there used to be metaphors, allegories, explanations that actually made sense (though sometimes it wasn’t spelled out for you) . The Cloud Minders, Let That Be Your Last Battlefield (tos) and The High Ground (tng) are just a few episodes off the top of my head, that deal with similar, difficult, situations. Even episodes like A Private Little War, which clearly hasn’t aged well, was very obviously an allegory for proxy wars, a very real and pertinent issue at the time it came out.

but the thing is, you have to think between the lines to understand them, none of them are so heavy handed as to just directly show a video of a historical event just to say “hey guys this is bad”, like it was only put there to prove the point that the show runners don’t support that.

one issue this brings up for me is, while trying to find others that agree with me on this i just keep coming across the sentiment “politics shouldn’t be in star trek”. if you’ve managed to miss the politics this whole time then i regret to inform you that your skull may be made of lead.

it’s hard to discuss real opinions on a show when so much of the criticism is flooded with “it’s too woke!! why is there politics in star trek!!!”

star trek has always been an overwhelmingly progressive show, (accounting for the fact that it started in the 60s of course) but unfortunately a lot of people have managed to miss that, a lot of the progressive points have ‘aged out’ of the show, and no longer make the point they used to as clearly as they would have had you watched them when they came out. now it seems that writers are overcompensating to drive home the point that it’s a progressive show.

to people who missed how progressive it already was, this makes it look unnecessarily ‘woke’ and like it came out of nowhere, for the rest of us who were paying attention, it seems very heavy handed and like they’re trying too hard to achieve something that old trek did effortlessly.

Short story : A Day with Nanami

It was a crisp Saturday morning, and the sun had just begun to peek through the curtains of the cozy apartment Nanami Kento shared with his little one. Today was a special day, a day free from work, a day dedicated solely to spending time with his beloved !

Nanami gently roused his little one from sleep, his voice a soft whisper, "Good morning, sunshine. Time to wake up"

The sleepy eyes blinked open, and a smile spread across the age regressed one face's "Gwood mowning, dada..."

After a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal topped with fresh fruits, prepared with care by Kento, the two set off for their morning walk in the nearby park. The crisp air and vibrant fall colors brought a sense of calm and joy

"Look, Papa ! A squiwwel!" you exclaimed, pointing excitedly

Nanami chuckled. "Yes, it's gathering acorns for the winter. Just like how we prepare for our day"

Back home, it was time for a bit of learning. Nanami had set up a puzzle on the living room floor. "Let's see if we can put this together," he said, sitting down beside his sweetheart. They worked together, Nanami patiently guiding and teaching as you connected the pieces

After lunch, which they prepared together, sandwiches cut into fun shapes and a colorful salad, came storytime. Nanami's deep, soothing voice filled the room as he read from a book of fables. The little one listened intently, eyes wide with wonder.

As the night grew quiet, Nanami sat beside the bed, reflecting on the day, grateful for the precious bond they shared.

hi fenris. (rlly big fan of ur writing). im still thinking about that theatre au. i was a stage manager for many many years & tim ‘control freak’ drake i think would absolutely love that role.

and with jason as a lead, just him absolutely loving to press tim’s buttons, badgering him to help run lines or go over blocking. the whole cast can see the tension between them and is constantly rolling their eyes about whenever jason starts opening his mouth again.

tim loving to single jason out during rehearsals, they’re always the last two to leave.

the power imbalance between them, tim always getting to boss jason around. but then when things finally come to a head jason taking the lead and talking tim through things. maybe they fuck on the catwalk (👀) right before a rehearsal and tim is just trying sooo hard to keep quiet but jason is doing Everything he can to make him not.

And oh my god. The original post saw Tim and Jason as rival actors gunning for the lead, but I'm losing my MIND over stage manager Tim fjldsfja [*cough* it's fitting right into the headspace I'm in for my gladiator!Jason WIP *cough* unbalanced power dynamics who* cough cough*] I am SUCH a sucker for that flip flop lmao - I love when one character has all the power EXCEPT in the bedroom fjdlsfja it's tasty self-indulgent food and I am Eating OwO

The Brat (tm) behavior of it all from Jason fjdlksjfa making Tim pay for his power tripping sexual style. It's absolutely serving side characters in the romcom who are always at each other's throats in all of their scenes, but ofc we then later see them making out in a broom closet. 10/10 A+++, got a little spicy with it under the cut lol:

Remember when I made this and listed deku's trauma that was never explored? I was lurking on Twitter today and saw some deku fan boys saying that he has no reason to have PTSD and he is completely happy because he's smiling and saying he's happy**, mind you they're saying this about the child soldier I described in that post.

But obviously anyone with a little bit of empathy and emotional intelligence can understand that boy is full of trauma and never talked about any of them to anyone. From the way those angry dudes were talking and were so sensitive and aggressive over the idea of deku experiencing PTSD, I realized it all came from their projection and sexism. Toxic masculinity had led them to think having PTSD would make them less of a man and it's only sth for women. And since they're projecting so hard on that boy (I genuinely don't understand how, deku is such a sweet boy and these ppl are just bunch of.....), when ppl said deku might have PTSD it made them angry because they thought it was a direct offense to them. They also say he's happy and there's no sadness surrounding him because : 1. He "got the girl", 2. He has a job. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? LIKE WHAT TYPE OF 12 YO BOY TAKE IS THIS😭 which you can clearly see it all comes from projection.

Anyway, this remind me in that post I was confused that only ocha's trauma is explored and the trio were quickly fine with every horrifying shit that happened to them. So I think hori either has the same mindset or did it like that so deku fan boys don't cry for their masculinity. Either way it's so sad and annoying.

I mean when you start reading Shonen you should consider at some point the author would just do anything to make dudes who project on the mc happy. Some mangaka don't do that though and instead try to guide those dudes

** btw they think deku smiling and saying I'm fine means he's happy. Didn't we just go through two arcs that deku hide his sadness with a smile? Bkg literally explained this lol. But ig they skip the scenes that don't fit their narrative. Like do these panels ring a bell?

Also some said "he dealt with them off screen " are you serious? This is a fictional story and he's the mc, they should be dealt with ON SCREEN 😭

Like if you believe he's happy that's fine but why so much aggressiveness and resistance of the idea of trauma for him? This is what bothering me. These dudes I described (projecting and sexism) are the ones who resist so hard. The ones who simply believe he's happy are fine, because ok that's another interpretation.

Violent J never thought he’d be spending his afternoon this way. There were no wild shows, no Faygo showers, no Juggalos screaming his name. Instead, the house was quiet, save for the soft rustle of blankets and the occasional giggle from the living room

J looked over from the kitchen, where he was pouring apple juice into a sippy cup. The Reader, his little one, as he lovingly called you, was sprawled out on the floor, surrounded by a sea of crayons and coloring books. You were lost in your own world, coloring outside the lines with reckless abandon. Violent J couldn’t help but smile

He walked over, careful not to step on any of the crayons scattered about. He set the sippy cup down beside you, the bright red cup contrasting against the mess of blues, greens, and purples that adorned the pages of the book. "Thirsty ?" he asked, keeping his voice soft

You looked up, eyes bright and innocent. You nodded, grabbing the cup with both hands and taking a big sip. "Thank you, J..." . you mumbled, a little juice escaping from the corner of your mouth

"No problem, little homie !" J said, grabbing a nearby tissue and gently wiping your chin. "You know I got you"

You smiled, the kind of smile that could light up the darkest corners of J’s heart. This wasn’t the Violent J the world knew, the wicked clown with face paint and wild lyrics. This was Joe, the caregiver, the one who understood that sometimes the toughest people need the softest moments

"You wanna build a fort today ?" J asked, glancing around at the throw pillows and blankets scattered about. Your eyes lit up immediatly. "Yeah !" you cheered, bouncing up to your feet. J chuckled, ruffling your hair. "Alright, let’s do it !" He moved some of the furniture around, creating a space for their masterpiece. Together, they draped blankets over chairs, turning the living room into a cozy hideaway. Violent J even added a few fairy lights for extra magic, anything to make you feel safe and happy in your regressed headspace

They crawled inside the fort together, surrounded by plushies and soft pillows. You nestled up against J, your small frame fitting perfectly against his side. He wrapped an arm around you, holding you close. "Comfy ?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper

"Yeah.." you replied softly, your head resting on his chest. "You’re the best, dada J.." He kissed the top of your head, feeling the warmth of the moment seep into his bones. "Nah, you’re the best, little one. You’re my number one homie, always"

You two stayed like that for a while, lost in the quiet comfort of the fort. J put on a movie, one of those animated ones that you loved so much, and you watched together in peaceful silence. Every now and then, J would hear your soft giggles, and it made his heart swell. This was his happy place, where the world’s chaos didn’t matter. It didn’t matter who he was on stage or what people thought of him. Here, he was just Joe, a caregiver, a friend, and a protector. And that was more than enough

As the movie ended and you started to drift off, J pulled the blankets up tighter around you. He could hear your gentle breathing, feel the rise and fall of your small chest against his side. He knew that moments like these were precious, fleeting glimpses of innocence and peace. "sweet dreams, little homie..." J whispered, brushing a stray hair from your forehead. You murmured something in their sleep, snuggling closer

So part of my 2025 resolutions was to embrace 'cringe' and let myself be enthusiastically involved in interacting in fandom spaces (commenting, reblogging, following, talking to strangers etc) and posting my own work and it's definitely scary at times but I cannot express the sincere joy I've been having in just the past month so far.

Maybe it's just how close knit folks are on the bucktommy side of fandom space that make it feel so welcoming and rewarding but seriously I cannot recommend it enough I know it sounds obvious but fandom really is what we make it and the difference between passively and quietly enjoying my things and loudly and joyously engaging is night and day I'm having so much fun 🥰
